HILLSIDE – York won its first West Suburban Silver game in eight tries by winning 27-20 at Proviso West Friday night.

The Dukes (3-3, 1-2 WSS) led 6-0 at halftime after a pair of field goals by Charlie Rose.

The Panthers (2-4, 0-3 WSS) turned the ball over on its first possession on the first half and York turned that into a 4-yard touchdown run by Joseph Biggins. A 44-yard pick-six by Ted Harrold ballooned the lead to 20-0 before the Panthers finally got on the board.

West cut a 27-6 lead to 27-20, but couldn't recover a late onside kick attempt and York was able to run out the clock.

York travels to Downers Grove North, also 3-3, in a game with playoff implications for both teams next week. Proviso West plays at Glenbard West on Saturday.
