WEST CHICAGO – The West Chicago PADS homeless shelter opened its doors Oct. 3 to provide shelter for those in need as the community prepares for the cooler weather of fall and winter.

The shelter is located at the First United Methodist Church, 643 E. Washington St.

The church is one of 28 overnight housing sites throughout DuPage County that operates a shelter for the Wheaton-based nonprofit PADS, or Public Action to Deliver Shelter.

The shelter is one of the church’s many volunteer ministries.

It will operate on Thursday evenings from October through May and provide guests with dinner, breakfast, a sack lunch and a safe place to sleep.

Volunteers are needed to assist in various capacities. Anyone interested in helping should contact church volunteer coordinator Brian Hendricks at 630-333-0640 or hendricks@fnal.gov.
