COUNTRYSIDE – The city's 30-foot front yard setback standard will stay intact after the Plan Commission decided interest in changing the zoning code was limited to a small part of the city.
Commission Chairman Richard Fullmer said that in the past 13 years, the current setback requirement has drawn only one complaint.
"It's a very limited area where it might be a problem," he said.
On blocks where homes sit more than 30 feet from the street, a new house could, under the zoning code, be built right at the 30-foot line. That nearly happened with at least one new residence in the city's second ward, but the homeowner was persuaded to have the home built in line with existing houses.
