LA GRANGE – Lyons Township High School celebrates Homecoming this week, and the school has a long list of events planned to dedicate the occasion.

The celebration started last weekend with the annual Variety Show at the North Campus’ Reber Center. Monday kicked off a series of themed spirit wear days with students wearing tie-dye clothing. Tuesday featured Hawaiian shirts and today is floral day. The week finishes with lifeguard-themed outfits Thursday and blue and gold wear Friday, when the Homecoming celebration kicks into high gear.

In the afternoon, the Lyons Township Care Auto Club will host its second annual Fall Car Meet.

The event is open to all types of vehicles, from hot rods to show cars to muscle cars, and runs from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the parking lot adjacent to the tennis courts at South Campus.

At 6 p.m., the Homecoming pep rally will begin at South Campus’ Bennett Field. Those in attendance can then stay for the varsity boys’ soccer Senior Night game at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday features a number of events, including the Homecoming parade, which starts at 10 a.m. in the North Campus parking lot and ends in the South Campus parking lot. The varsity football game against Oak Park-River Forest kicks off at 1:30 p.m. at Bennett Field, where the Booster Lionfest will run all day and feature booster wear and BBQ.

Before all the events, at 9 a.m., the Alumni Association will officially unveil the all-class gift of two stone medallions that have been installed on the Cossitt and Brainard Avenue sides of the North Campus Fieldhouse. The medallions, which were donated by alumni in recognition of LT’s 125th anniversary, are each 6 feet in diameter and weigh more than 1,300 pounds.

Saturday also will include campus tours for alumni. Tours start at 9 a.m. at North Campus (meet at the Bell Tower) and 11 a.m. at South Campus (meet in Times Square).

An alumni reception will follow at noon at the South Campus Corral.

One new twist this year is a Homecoming Photo Contest sponsored by the Alumni Association. Select photos will be posted on the LT website, and the winning photo will appear in the spring edition of “Alumni News.” The winner also will receive an LT prize package.
