Fenwick 40, Gordon Tech 7

Fenwick’s football team clinched a playoff spot with a sixth straight win to start the season. The Friars led 40-0 at halftime and cruised in the second half against Gordon Tech (2-4). Senior quarterback Gino Cavalieri passed for three touchdowns and helped the Friar offense score on its first five possessions. Ryan Smith caught two of those touchdowns and Robert Spillane scored another one on the ground. Fenwick faces its toughest remaining game on Saturday, when it hosts homecoming against Catholic League Blue opponent Providence Catholic.

York 27, Proviso West 20

The Dukes got the best of the Panthers in a battle of winless West Suburban Silver teams. York took a 6-0 lead into halftime on a pair of field goals and led 20-0 entering the fourth quarter before the Panthers mounted a late rally. Chance Haney scored one touchdown on the ground to cut the lead to 20-6. York scored again before Denzel Tolliver and Julian Miller caught TD passes from Dennis Bryant Jr. The comeback came up just short after an onside kick attempt was covered by the Dukes in the final minute. The loss significantly dents West’s playoff hopes. At 2-4, the Panthers will need to win out to make the postseason.

Brother Rice 63, St. Joseph 14

The Chargers were overmatched by the Crusaders of the Catholic League Blue on Sunday at Elmhurst College. St. Joseph falls to 1-5 on the season and hosts 2-4 Lake Forest Academy on Saturday.
