100-year-old Claude Walton named Lombard's Senior of the Year
LOMBARD – Claude A. Walton, a 58-year Lombard resident was named the village’s Senior of the Year at Wednesday’s annual Senior Fair. Walton’s wife, Darwin, accepted the award from Village President Keith Giagnorio because he was unable to attend the event.
Walton, 100, was born in Marshall, Texas. He was one of the first African American students to attend the University of Colorado and the first University of Colorado athlete to earn All-American honors, according to his nominating materials.
He served with the American Red Cross during World War II and later served for 50 years with the Chicago Park District in the positions of summer worker, physical education instructor, playground supervisor and associate superintendent.
