Lemont mayor pursuing Metra Board seat
LEMONT – Lemont Mayor Brian Reaves said he is looking to fill one of the vacant seats on the Metra Board of Directors.
Reaves is hoping to fill the District 3 seat in Cook County, which is appointed by a group of Cook County commissioners.
"I believe that mayors are one of the best people to serve on the Metra Board because we have to deal with transportation on a daily basis," he said.
Chris Provenzano, a staff member for Cook County Commissioner Elizabeth Gorman, said Reaves was among the candidates who made presentations to the commissioners on Oct. 1.
Provenzano said commissioners are accepting formal applications from the candidates and hope to decide on a new member before the Metra Board's next meeting on Friday, Oct. 18.
Provenzano said Reaves would have to forgo his mayoral salary if he is seated on the Board.
"He would not be able to take the position if he was accepting a government salary," he said.
Reaves said he would be willing to forgo his salary in order to accept the position.
