ADDISON – DuPage County State's Attorney Robert B. Berlin announced Tuesday an Addison street gang received an injunction.

The Latin Counts operate in Addison and face a lawsuit filed by the State's Attorney's Office. The injunction was issued by Circuit Court Judge Terrance Sheen following a bench trial.

The injunction prohibits members of the gang, both named and unnamed, from having any public contact with each other. They are also not allowed to use, possess or deliver any illegal or controlled substances. Under the injunction, Latin Counts members can't possess weapons outside the home and are prohibited from participating in any assaults, batteries or intentional injuring of any person. They also can't "throw" gang signs.

The injunction prohibits any member of the gang to enter the area bounded by West Lincoln Court and West Lincoln Avenue on the west, Green Meadow Drive on the south, North Addison Road on the east and Byron Avenue on the north.

If any member of the gang commits any act prohibited by the injunction, the State's Attorney's Office can seek a sanction of criminal contempt.

The injunction specifically names Victor Loeza, Omar Corral, Jorge Gomez, David Ortiz, Carlos Mendoza, Gerardo Hernandez, Jose Colon and Kevin Bratt.

According to the lawsuit, named and unnamed members of the gang caused injuries and damage to the people of Illinois as well as the Village of Addison by engaging in numerous criminal activities between 2000 and 2010. Those activities include aggravated battery, unlawful delivery of a controlled substance and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon among others.

In addition, the injunction seeks $80,000 to offset the cost the Village has incurred combatting the Latin Counts.
