VILLA PARK – State Sen. Tom Cullerton, D-Villa Park, recently was appointed to serve on two newly created task forces, the School Security and Standards Task Force and the Task Force on Civic Education.

The School Security and Standards Task Force focuses on studying the existing security and safety standards in Illinois and making recommendations for schools to improve safety. Cullerton was the co-sponsor in creating this task force, which is comprised of lawmakers, first responders, teachers, school administrators and security specialists.

The Task Force on Civic Education will work to review how civics is currently taught in Illinois schools, study how other states teach civics and make recommendations for restoring civics education in the classroom.

Cullerton was the chief Senate sponsor on the law that created this task force.
