Village brings in strong returns from annual Recycling Extravaganza
LOMBARD – The Village of Lombard hosted its annual Recycling Extravaganza on Sept. 21 and collected nontraditional recyclable items from residents.
In all, the event collected two semi-trailers of electronics, 2,800 pounds of car batteries, 70 bicycles, five pallets of paper and cardboard, 100 flower pots, eight pallets of used clothing, a dumpster of scrap metal along with wheelchairs, crutches, shoes, cell phones, flags, shoes, eyeglasses and hearing aids.
Volunteers from Glenbard East High School, Montini Catholic High School, the Rotary Club, the Lions Club, Working Bikes Cooperative, the VFW, Family Shelter Services and the village's Environmental Concerns Committee helped collect and sort items at the event.
