OAK BROOK A Detroit man who was shot in the stomach earlier this summer in an attempted robbery on C.D. Peacock in Oak Brook pleaded guilty Monday to attempted armed robbery, said Paul Darrah, spokesperson for the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office.

Levert Jones, 25, was shot by a security guard in June after he and two other men attempted to rob the jewelry store. He faces a four- to 15-year prison term for the attempted robbery at the Oakbrook Center mall.

According to the Oak Brook Police Department, Jones and the other men entered the store about 3:45 p.m. June 23. A sledgehammer was then used to smash a glass case containing jewelry.

A security guard confronted Jones, and, after a struggle, the guard shot Jones in the abdomen.

Police said the other men escaped and fled in a car they stole from the parking lot. While that car was later recovered, the two men are still at large.

Jones' next court appearance is set for Nov. 4.
