Civil War Symposium coming to Cantigny Park Oct. 5 and 6

WHEATON – Cantigny Park will be filled with Civil War re-enactors and presenters during its 16th annual Civil War Symposium Oct. 5 and 6, according to a news release from the park.

More than 100 attendees, mainly history teachers, are expected at the first day of the symposium hosted by the National Archives Great Lakes Region from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The theme for this year is "1863: The Tide of War Turns" and will include presentations on the Siege of Vicksburg, African-American illness and suffering, desertion and the Union High Command.

Re-enactors portraying soldiers, civilians, famous figures and even a battle field surgeon will perform for visitors.
