Goals from Josh Anderson and Andrew Wieringa helped Timothy Christian’s boys soccer team come from behind to beat Elmwood Park 2-1 for its first Metro Suburban Conference win this season. Anderson scored with 12 minutes left and drew a penalty kick, which Wieringa converted in the final five minutes of the match.
On Monday, the Trojans beat Westmont 7-0, but they fell to MSC foe Fenton 2-1 on Tuesday.
The Dukes dropped a West Suburban Silver match to Oak Park River Forest 2-0 on Tuesday. The loss snapped a five-game unbeaten run for York, which is 3-6-2 overall and 1-2 in the Silver.
After losing to New Trier 18-25, 20-25 on Saturday, the Dukes fell to 2-2 in the West Suburban Silver with a 14-25, 21-25 loss to conference leader Glenbard West on Tuesday.
Rory Manion had 14 kills to lead the Knights to a 25-22, 25-6 win over Aurora Christian on Monday. Delaney D’Amore had eight kills, 12 digs and five aces. Kimmy Martino tallied 20 assists.
On Wednesday, the Knights met a strong Montini team and pushed them to three games, but fell short, 21-25, 25-21, 25-27.
The Trojans won the Manteno Invitational on Saturday with five victories. Timothy beat Wilmington, Manteno, Illiana Christian, Crete-Monee and Coal City.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
The Dukes flexed their muscles again with a first place finish at the Palatine Invitational on Saturday. Alex Bashqawi won the race with a time of 14:43.1. Nathan Mroz (third) and Kyle Mattes (sixth) also finished in the top 10.
Philip Roberto’s 17th-place finish was the best for the Knights in the blue division of the Aurora Central Catholic Charger Classic on Saturday. IC was ninth out of 11.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Trojans’ sophomore Hannah Bosman won the blue division of the Aurora Central Catholic Charger Classic with a time of 18:19.5. Senior Abby Dykema was 12th and the Trojans were fifth out of eight teams.
IC Catholic was represented by four runners at the Aurora Central Catholic Charger Classic. Senior Rachel Hill was 42nd and sophomore Mikko Eguia was 44th.
The Dukes were fourth at the West Suburban Silver conference meet on Tuesday at Prairie Bluff Golf Club. York shot a 313 to finish behind Hinsdale Central (291), Lyons Township (301) and Oak Park River Forest (306).
The Trojans placed fifth at the Metro Suburban Conference meet on Wednesday with a 374.
Megan Backman was 19th with an 88 to lead the Dukes at the West Suburban Conference tournament Wednesday at Village Greens Golf Course. As a team, York shot a 380 and was seventh out of 10 teams.
The Dukes went 3-0 at the West Aurora quad on Saturday with wins over the hosts, Waubonsie Valley and Yorkville. Angela Avgerinos won two matches at No. 1 doubles with Annie Rivera and a third with Blaire Porter. No. 2 doubles team Randi Wilson and Abigail Kayman went 3-0.
McKenna Byrne coasted to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles and the Trojans beat Leyden 7-0 on Monday.
