Victory for Vincent Fundraiser to be held this weekend at Kiwanis Park

BROOKFIELD – On Sunday, scores of residents are expected to come out to Kiwanis Park to show their support and raise funds for a local family to help with cancer treatment for their son.

In September 2010, Vincent Grigoletti began experiencing headaches. An X-ray at La Grange Memorial Hospital showed a tumor in his brain soon after, which was successfully removed. Vincent then went through six weeks of radiation treatment to his brain and spinal column in Chicago, followed by six months of chemotherapy at Loyola University Medical Center.

Vincent was in remission until July when a MRI scan showed a new tumor in his frontal lobe.

Because Vincent has had a relapse, his treatment options now are limited. One of the last resorts is a stem cell therapy, according to his parents, Laurine and Dan.

The family is planning to begin a clinical trial at Lurie Children’s Hospital to shrink the tumor.

On Sunday, the family and many friends and community members will be out in a show of support. The Victory for Vincent Fundraiser will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Kiwanis Park.

Raffle tickets will be sold at the event, which will raise funds for Vincent’s treatment. Cash prizes and offerings from local businesses will be awarded. The event also will host a home run derby, free-throw tournament and bags tournament. The entry fee for each event will go directly to the family.

Plenty of food also will be provided, including corn on the cob, brats, chili, hot dogs and burgers.
