WESTERN SPRINGS – For all the hype, build up and excitement in the crowd, the game for the Silver Brick was decided in the span of a couple minutes.
After a scoreless first half, Hinsdale Central scored twice in two minutes to break the game open against host Lyons Township. The Red Devils (11-0-2, 4-0 West Suburban Silver) retained the Silver Brick rivalry trophy with a 3-0 win Saturday afternoon.
In the third minute of the second half Justin Yi drilled a half volley into the net after a failed clearance by the LT defense. Two minutes later Max Krohn cleaned up in front to double the lead after T.J. Schmidt flicked on an Evan Floersch free kick.
The Lions (7-3-2, 3-1 WSS) created chances, but were unable to score past goalkeeper Wes Bergevin (6 saves).
“We pride ourselves in keeping that clean sheet,” Yi said. “In breaking them down we just needed to calm down a bit.”
Bryan Loebig added a third goal in the 77th minute after the Lions turned the ball over defensively.
The game was played in front of a big crowd at LT’s Bennett Field.
“Everyone came out and supported us,” said LT captain Frankie Kocimski. “It definitely gives us the feel of a playoff atmosphere to what I think are top tier teams going at each other.”
