School District 100 believes that parent communication is paramount for student success.
Our staff continually looks for ways to increase parent and community communication and involvement. This year, we are using digital platforms more than ever because we know parents already are there and are more likely to be on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram on a regular basis to communicate with family and friends.
We make it easy for parents to check on what is going on at their child’s school, and in many cases, their child’s class. We are able to use social media platforms to inform parents about student achievement, calendar reminders and athletic results instantaneously from anywhere in the school using a computer, tablet or smart phone. The use of social media can help parents better communicate with their child about their daily school experience. Instead of asking, “What did you do in school today?,” the parent can now ask, “How did you like learning about amphibians today?”
We are able to reach a broader audience by using social media, including our community at large. There are so many wonderful things going on every day in our schools and we want everyone in Berwyn and the world to know about it! Last year we hosted 40 site visits where school districts from as far as Minnesota came to our district to see our 1:1 program in action. These educators can now check our social media platforms to see the great strides we are making in District 100 and subsequently take the information back to their school district. “School District 100 is quite popular in and outside of 60402.” We are providing the type of instruction that school districts wish they had.
We encourage everyone in the Berwyn community to follow District 100 on Facebook www.facebook.com/southberwyn100. You also can find the links to all of the social media outlets for Emerson, Freedom, Heritage, Hiawatha, Irving, Komensky, Pershing and Piper Schools at your fingertips by going to the district website where you will find Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Google+ and school blog information to keep you up to date on what’s happening in our schools.
