Cantigny announces major front entrance project

WHEATON – Cantigny Park will greet visitors with a new front entrance, starting in mid-2014, after the completions of a major construction project, according to a Park news release.

The Park’s main entrance on Winfield Road in Wheaton will undergo a complete overhaul, the release said. New features will include a turn lane, wider lanes, two parking booths, new signage and improved lighting and landscaping, all of which will make the area safer and more accessible.

Cantigny’s front entrance has been relatively unchanged since the its inception in 1958, according to the release. However, the Park was not designed to accommodate the its current annual attendance of more than 350,000.

“We’re excited to bring the front entrance up to speed with the rest of our operations,” said Park Executive Director Matt LaFond in the release. “We want visitors to be able to come and go without delay.”

The project, which will take 10 months to complete, is funded by the McCormick Foundation, a nonprofit charity in Chicago.
