Glenbard South-West co-op relies on senior swimmers

GLEN ELLYN – While the senior group on the Glenbard South-Glenbard West co-op swimming team might not be a large one, it most definitely is a special one.

The current graduating class becomes the first to spend four years within the program.

“It is hard to believe how far the group has come in that time,” said coach Chris Flamion.

Leading the way is three-time state qualifier Meg Beese, who qualified for the state meet out of the York sectional last fall in the 100-yard backstroke.

Fellow senior Courtney Boak, whose top event is the 200 freestyle, is also expected to be a major contributor this season.

As a team, the co-op finished fourth at the sectional meet last year with a score of 160.

“We want to return with a relay to the state meet,” the coach said, “and remain relevant at sectionals.”

The squad, which has 22 athletes on the roster, is still very young, but the future is bright: Glenbard South-Glenbard West won the frosh-soph conference meet in 2012.
