BOLINGBROOK – One person is dead and another is critically injured after a small plane crashed into the parking lot of Chase bank at Weber Road and Lily Cache Lane in Bolingbrook.

Both of the victims were the occupants of the plane and there were no injuries on the ground, according to Bolingbrook police.

Around 5:20 p.m. Wednesday, a single-engine prop plane crashed into a tree, light pole and several vehicles just feet from the bank building, 262 S. Weber Road, police said. The plane and three vehicles in the parking lot were engulfed in flames when emergency responders arrived.

Bolingbrook Deputy Chief Tom Ross said one victim was deceased on the scene while a second victim was transferred to the hospital with severe burns.

It's unclear if the airplane was taking off or landing at nearby Clow International Airport, which is just west of the scene.

The crash occurred at the height of rush hour at a busy Bolingbrook intersection.

"It's a sad situation but we're very fortunate with it being rush hour that it wasn't worse," he said.
