Cicero man who stole air conditioning units in Riverside pleads guilty

Riverside police announced that Marcelion Perales, 32, of the 5700 block of West Park Avenue in Cicero, pleaded guilty Sept. 20 to one count of felony theft for a series of air conditioning unit thefts in Riverside and the surrounding area.

Police in Riverside charged Perales in August after he was arrested and detained by police in River Forest for the theft of an air conditioning unit. In the Riverside case, Perales was accused of stealing several large commercial air conditioning units from a medical building in the 7200 block of West Ogden Avenue.

Police said the units were located outside the building and Perales cut the wires from the building and actually stole the entire 5-ton air conditioning units.

Police also said that Perales sold the units, which consisted of aluminum and copper, to a scrap yard in Chicago for $1,000. The estimated value of the units that were stolen was $15,000.

After pleading guilty, Perales was sentenced to five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
