Brookfield man wins Zoo Run Run 5k in over 70 category

BROOKFIELD – Nearly 3,600 runners and walkers leaped like gazelles at the Brookfield Zoo's Zoo Run Run for the Conservation Fund 5K on Sept. 22.

The course led participants through an forest of 100-year-old forest of oak trees, past Andean condors near The Living Coast exhibit and by giraffes, zebras and camels along 31st Street, before a final stretch as runner breezed by lions, tigers and snow leopards.

The overall male winner was Christopher Schiel of Schaumburg with a time of 17:49, and the overall female winner was Jane Simpson of Western Springs with a time of 19:40.

Brookfield's Edward Pour finished first in the male aged 70 and old category with a finishing time of 32:12.

Runners competed in 13 age categories that ranged from 14 years old to over 70.
