Saint Francis Xavier School in La Grange receives prestigious Blue Ribbon award

Published: Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013 3:47 p.m. CDT

LA GRANGE – Saint Francis Xavier School has been named one of 50 private schools nationwide to receive a 2013 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence award.

The school was recognized in the Exemplary High Performing category, which requires that a school rank in the top 15 percent of schools nationally for reading and mathematics, or the top 15 percent in its state.

Of the nearly 135,000 public and private schools in the country, fewer than 7,500 have received the award since the Blue Ribbon program began in 1982.

The list of award-winners was announced Tuesday by U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan. To celebrate the award, Saint Francis Xavier is planning to decorate trees and each classroom door with a blue ribbon. The school will also hold an assembly Oct. 4 with a proclamation from Village President Tom Livingston and representatives from the Archdiocese of Chicago.
