Willowbrook senior defensive back/wide receiver Hayden Adams was a game changer on both sides of the ball in the Warriors’ 28-13 win over York on Sept. 20. Adams already had a 76-yard touchdown catch to his name when he broke the game open with a 15-yard touchdown catch followed by a pick six a minute later. Adams’ two scores in quick succession turned what was a tied game on its head. Adams, the Oak Trust Credit Union Athlete of the Week, spoke with sports reporter Dan Santaromita about his and the Warriors' big year so far.
Last year you had three interceptions and two touchdowns against York. What is it about the Dukes?
I just get fired up for every game. I don’t know why it’s about York, but I just always stand out in that game.
Did you think you could be 3-1 at this stage in the season?
Yeah, especially us losing against Glenbard East. That hurt us a lot. We had a good chance against Glenbard East. We just beat ourselves offensively and defensively. We’re just making a strong run right now.
Was it fun to run under a deep ball from Brian Johnson for that 76-yard touchdown?
Actually that was kind of new. Normally I ran a lot of short routes for him these past couple games. I was just beating them with my feet. I was wide open. He always says he will throw them up to me.
