Bolingbrook’s numbers add up
BOLINGBROOK – Bolingbrook’s football team believes that running the ball wins games and championships.
It’s hard to argue that logic as the Raiders blistering ground attack is steamrolling the competition four games into the season.
Averaging 6.83 yards per carry on the year, the Raiders backfield has accounted for 956 yards and 15 touchdowns, as Mike Valentine and Jaden Huff are leading the charge with six and four scores, respectively.
While Valentine is averaging a whopping 10.4 yards per carry this season, Huff has seen a lions’ share of the workload, rushing the ball 49 times for 328 yards. Quarterback Quincy Woods has also joined the ground onslaught, amassing 30 carries for 220 yards and two scores through four games.
As a result, the Raiders haven’t required much assistance through the air, attempting only 35 passes for a 178 yards.
On the other side of the ball, the Bolingbrook defense has pitched two shutouts, allowing only 13 combined points in four weeks of play. Senior lineback C.J. Clark has led the way with 16 tackles, 12 assists and three tackles for a loss. Defensive back Jacob Huff leads the team in takeaways with 2 interceptions and a forced fumble.
The combination of a strong running game and stout defense led to another Raider victory Friday, as Bolingbrook shut out Stagg 41-0. It was the team’s eighth consecutive quarter without allowing a point.
Bolingbrook led just 6-0 at halftime after Dariel Greer hit Dimitri Wiafe-Akenten on a 10-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter.
Valentine had a third-quarter scoring run and Jaden Huff hauled in a 12-yard touchdowns pass to push the lead to 20-0, and the Raiders piled on in the fourth quarter with two Valentine and Huff runs plus Cortez Wilson’s 26-yard touchdown run to cap the scoring with 1:46 to play.
Bolingbrook currently sits atop the West Suburban Blue Conference, tied with Homewood-Flossmoor and Lincoln-Way East. All three teams boasts 4-0 overall records and 2-0 marks in conference play. The Raiders will look to remain undefeated when they host Joliet West at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
