GLEN ELLYN – Under first-year head coach Kevin Graham, the Glenbard South girls tennis team got off to a solid start this fall.

Behind the No. 1 doubles team of juniors Jenna Brambora and Rachel Rettger, the Raiders won six of their first eight dual meets. They beat Lake Park, Bartlett and Glenbard East, and more recently Timothy Christian and Illiana Christian in Metro Suburban Conference action. On Monday, Glenbard South beat Downers Grove North, 6-1.

Brambora and Rettger had a record of 7-3 through their first 10 matches. Brambora was a state qualifier a year ago in singles after coming in second place at the Downers Grove South sectional.

Also contributing is freshman No. 1 singles player Shelby Fritz, who came in third place at the Waubonsie Valley Tournament.

“Overall, I am very excited about this year,” Graham said. “We have a team of great girls who work hard and have a lot of potential. Our goal is to try and win conference as well as having a few people qualify for state.”
