CITGO penalized for alleged environmental violations at Lemont refinery
LEMONT – CITGO Petroleum Corp. has agreed to pay a $737,000 civil penalty and to implement projects to reduce harmful air pollution after alleged violations of the Clean Air Act at facilities including the Lemont refinery, according to a U.S. Department of Justice news release.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency alleged that CITGO failed to sample and test reformulated gasoline blendstock at its Lemont refinery, according to the release.
As part of the settlement, CITGO will install and maintain a geodesic dome on one of the fuel storage tanks at its Lemont refinery, the release said.
