Riverside Police Chief contract extended

Riverside’s top cop’s contract extension was approved by the Board of Trustees at its public meeting Thursday night.

Under the deal, Chief Tom Weitzel’s contract, which pays him $124,396.32 annually, will be extended through April 30, 2017.

Like other department heads, Weitzel’s contract includes a condition that states that under periods of severe financial trouble he may be required to accept a reduction in pay.

The trustees approved the deal unanimously.

Code officers enforcing ordinance violations

Riverside Village Manager Peter Scalera said most of the residents whose homes violate village ordinances have received notices from village representatives telling them what they need to do and how quickly they have to resolve the problems.

“Failure to do so will result in a formal citation,” Scalera said.

Representatives armed with door hangers listing various village code violations have been making the rounds for more than a week now. Punishable offenses include safety concerns and general eyesores, such as visible animal waste.

Car show coming up

The public was invited to attend the Riverside Chamber of Commerce Car Show at the Board of Trustee’s meeting.

The event, which is expected to feature 250 to 300 vehicles, will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29 in downtown Riverside.

Those interested in entering their car in the show for a chance to win the Best of Show trophy, or any of the many other awards, must pay $25 and contact Riverside Garage.

The event is free for members of the public.

Chew Chew will be selling food.
