Prep roundup: Tiger volleyball finishes strong at own tourney

The Tigers came in 11th place at the Wheaton Classic, ending the event with a 25-12, 25-21 win over Hinsdale Central on Saturday.

Talia Holze was named to the all-tournament team.

Wheaton Warrenville South fell 25-15, 21-25, 25-22 to Naperville Central on Sept. 19 despite nine kills and six digs from Holze. Rachel Burau contributed 10 assists, five digs and four kills.


Wheaton North

The Falcons finished in 10th place at the 2013 Wheaton Classic which wrapped up Saturday, falling 25-16, 25-17 to Lemont in the ninth-place match.

Grace Tiesman was selected to the all-tournament team.

West Chicago

The Wildcats won the championship at the Belvidere Tournament Saturday, beating the host school 25-22, 25-21 in the final. West Chicago defeated Brooks 25-21, 25-16 in the semifinals.

Mary Kate Katarzynski totaled 43 kills and 39 digs at the event while Ronni Katarzynski finished with 49 digs. Devan Orr added 21 kills and 53 digs.

St. Francis

Behind seven kills from Maddie Haggerty, the Spartans beat Aurora Central Catholic 25-8, 25-9 Monday. Sam Dubiel added 11 service points.

Wheaton Academy

The Warriors placed 14th at the Wheaton Classic, wrapping up the tournament with a 25-22, 26-24 loss to Downers Grove North Saturday.


West Chicago

The Wildcats tied Benet 3-3 on Monday. Eduardo Suarez, Oswaldo Estrada and Jerry Medina all scored goals for West Chicago.

Wheaton Academy

The Warriors fell, 2-1, to Morton in the semifinals of the Pepsi Showdown Saturday. Ty Seager scored the lone goal. Wheaton Academy had knocked off Warren 3-1 in the quarterfinals behind a pair of goals from Sam Hardy.
