Prep roundup: Hilltoppers take title at own volleyball tourney
The Hilltoppers won their eighth straight match with a 25-13, 25-16 decision over Palatine Monday.
On Saturday, Glenbard West captured the title at its own invite with a 25-20, 24-26, 32-30 win over Geneva.
Meg DeMaar was selected as the MVP of the tournament after totaling 76 digs and seven aces. Natalie Schilling finished with 45 kills and 25 digs.
Receiving 10 kills and seven digs from Kenzie Watterson, the Raiders defeated Riverside-Brookfield 25-18, 25-23 on Sept. 19.
Tarah Valdez added eight kills and 14 digs, Sydney Bauman finished with four kills, and Alex LaPonte dished out 23 assists to go along with six digs.
The Raiders knocked off Fenton 160-180 on Monday. Russell Matos shot a 38, Kevin Uvodich had a 40 and Michael Wittenberg, Rob Prioletti and Steve Robinson all carded a 41.
Glenbard South also defeated Ridgewood 153-159 in a Metro Suburban Conference dual meet on Sept. 17. Matos grabbed medalist honors with a four-under 32 while Wittenberg carded an even-par 36. Christopher Dufort added a 42 and Uvodich shot a 43.
The Hilltoppers lost 142-163 to Hinsdale Central in West Suburban Silver action on Sept. 19. Will Hanson topped Glenbard West with a 39 and Kevin Nelson posted a 40.
The Hilltoppers beat Lakes 2-1 in overtime Sept. 19 as Emma Winans and Hannah Paterakis both scored.
The Raiders beat Illiana Christian 5-2 in a Metro Suburban Conference match on Sept. 19. Alaina Gillespie won at No. 3 singles and the Glenbard South doubles’ teams pulled off a perfect sweep, winning four matches in straight sets.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
The Hilltoppers came in as the runner-up at the Kaneland Invitational Saturday. The team posted a score of 53, placing behind only Crystal Lake Central (41).
Paul Christian was third in a time of 16:14.8 and Ben Hecht followed with a 10th-place showing in 16:27.3. Eric Neumann was 12th, Jack Billings came in 14th and Jake Jaskowiak was 18th.
The Raiders competed at the Minooka Flighted Invitational Saturday, placing 10th with a score of 65. Joe Singleton came in second in flight No. 2, finishing in a time of 15:22. Joe Meade was fourth in flight No. 3.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Behind a runner-up individual finish from Lindsay Graham, the Hilltoppers came in third place at the Richard Spring Invitational at Detweiller Park in Peoria Saturday.
Graham crossed the line in 17:02 and was followed by Lisa Luczak in sixth (17:32).
Rounding out the top-five were Grace Rogers (25th), Megan Ozog (47th) and Janie Nabholz (81st).
The Hilltoppers beat Addison Trail 2-0 Saturday as Spencer Rojc and Ian Winans both scored goals. Winans also added an assist.
