Glendale Heights man drowns in Chicago sewer during flash flood

GLENDALE HEIGHTS – A Glendale Heights man drowned while performing construction work in a Chicago sewer in the midst of flash flooding Sept. 18 in the 3000 block of N. Rockwell Street in Chicago.

Construction worker Gustavo Bricino, 25, of Glendale Heights, was carried away by the waters while at work in the sewer system, according to Chicago Fire Commander Will Knight. He became trapped by the flooding and drowned.

The Chicago Fire Department was called to the scene to perform a confined space rescue at 8:34 p.m., Knight said. They continued searching for two hours, before Bricino's body was found one block away from where he had been working.

Bricino was pronounced dead at 11:03 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
