Fenwick rolls past Bishop Mac in league opener

Naz, Proviso West and St. Joseph all take losses

A year after needing overtime to beat Bishop McNamara, Fenwick overcame a slow start to romp 40-14 in the Chicago Catholic League White opener. The Fightin’ Irish scored first, but the lead didn’t last long. Richard Shoen had a big day for Fenwick with a receiving touchdown for the Friars’ first score and two interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown.

Joliet Catholic 42, Nazareth 0: The Roadrunners have received a rude awakening in the early games in the East Suburban Catholic Conference. After winning the first two games of the season by an average of 37 points, Naz has lost its first two ESCC while giving up 42 points in both games. The host Roadrunners were last shut out in Week 7 of 2012 by Benet.

Hinsdale Central 31, Proviso West 0: The Panthers were missing starting quarterback Dennis Bryant Jr., but the Red Devils also were without QB Chase Hamilton. The Red Devils won the battle of back up quarterbacks without much trouble. West will be expected to get back on the right track against 0-4 Proviso West on Saturday.

Gordon Tech 7, St. Joseph 6: The Chargers lost a heartbreaker in a Chicago Catholic League Red game. St. Joseph hosted the game at Elmhurst College’s Langhorst Field. The Chargers will need to recharge at De La Salle in Week 5.
