LYONS – A 49-year-old Riverside man died Tuesday evening after a possible accidental shooting at Midwest Gun Shop in Lyons that afternoon.

Michael Babinsky, 49, of the 300 block of Nuttall Road, was pronounced dead at 5:36 p.m. Tuesday at Loyola University Hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

The Lyons Police Department responded to the gun shop at 1:55 p.m. Tuesday for a reported shooting and found Babinsky on the first floor of the gun range with a severe head injury, according to a department news release. Babinsky was transported to the hospital in critical condition and died less than four hours later.

Lyons Police Commander Brian Kuratko said Wednesday that there was no other shooter involved and that the shooting is being investigated as an accident or misfire.

On Tuesday, police said they were reviewing video surveillance from the store, located in the 8500 block of Plainfield Road, as well as interviewing witnesses.
