LOMBARD – Taking over the Glenbard North girls volleyball program this fall, Jenny Farinella wasn’t sure what to expect in her first year.
But so far, the head coach is pleased with her team.
Glenbard North improved to 2-1 in the DuPage Valley Conference, and 5-4 overall, with a 25-17, 23-25, 25-22 win over Glenbard East on Tuesday.
“I’m really excited about how the season has gone,” Farinella said. “Tuesday was a really close match, but the team came together and battled to win it.”
Stephanie Tobison totaled 15 kills and 15 digs, Marissa Bettinger and Angela Ravanesi each had 11 assists and Gianna Chesrow and Sarah Peters totaled 13 and 10 digs, respectively. Nicole Tobison also posted three kills and two aces.
The Panthers also picked up a recent 25-20, 25-20 league win over Lake Park.
“All the DVC teams have been pretty competitive,” the coach said. “I think we’ve done well. We worked a lot on serve-receive and that is something we were much better at against Glenbard East. We have to continue to work on our defense, that is what we struggled with on Tuesday.”
The tone for the season was set on Sept. 6 and 7 when Glenbard North placed second at the Willowbrook Invite.
“That was a confidence boost going into conference,” Farinella added. “Being a new team with a new coach, that really helped the kids believe in what they could do together.”
Glenbard North will head to the Hersey Invite on Saturday where the Panthers will play five matches.
