Obesity rates in DuPage County children have declined in the last year, according to a news release from the DuPage County Health Department.

A study of kindergarten, sixth and ninth grade students in public schools during the 2012-13 school year showed that 29.9 percent were overweight or obese and 14.4 percent were obese. That marks a slight improvement compared to the previous year, when 31 percent of students were overweight or obese and 15.4 percent were obese.

The release said that a sampling of BMI levels is now being collected for the 2013-14 school year by FORWARD, a county-wide public-private partnership with the Health Department.
