Lemont girls' academy introduces new academic program

LEMONT – Mount Assisi Academy in Lemont has started a year-long series of speakers, hands-on activities and group discussions called "Roadmaps."

According to a press release, the Roadmaps mission is based on the American School Counseling Association focus on academic, emotional, and social support for high school girls. The Mount Assisi program adds spiritual support within the Roadmaps context.

The first session featured a speaker on dating violence and a police officer teaching self-defense techniques, the release said. Some of the future topics include interviewing for jobs and college, auto mechanics, first aid, a cooking lesson and how to be financially savvy.
