DuPage County chairman appoints ad-hoc committee head after transportation confrontation
DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin will convene an ad-hoc mass transit committee to address the "significant issues and potential changes facing the region's mass transit boards," according to a news release from DuPage County.
The committee, which will report to the already-existing Transportation Committee, will be headed by councilwoman Tonia Khouri, the release said. It will provide guidance to the County Board on topics such as the potential restructuring of the Regional Transportation Authority, governance of the Metra, spending resources in the 2014 budget and more.
Cronin cited Khouri's leadership experience as a business owner as a reason for the appointment.
The announcement of the new committee comes a week after Cronin said he was "disappointed" in the recent performance of the current Public Transit Committee and its chairman, Elizabeth Chaplin.
Cronin said during a council meeting Sept. 10. that, in light of the "lack of attention, lack of interest, lack of genuine involvement into these pressing issues by the transit chair," he would establish the ad-hoc committee.
The new committee will also include Don Puchalski, Sean Noonan, Brian Krajewski, Grant Eckhoff, Tony Michelassi and Bob Larsen, according to the release.
