Downers Grove police search for suspect in attempted armed robbery

DOWNERS GROVE – Downers Grove police are looking for a man suspected of attempted armed robbery Tuesday morning.

The man is described as Hispanic, between 5-foot-10 and 6-foot and in his teens or 20s. He was described as skinny with facial hair on his chin.

Police said he allegedly showed a gun while attempting to rob a motorist sitting in a parked car at Saratoga and Franklin streets around 8:24 a.m. Tuesday.

He was last seen wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, dark jogging pants and white gym shoes. Police also provided a sketch of the man.

Area schools were briefly placed on lockdown while police searched for the suspect.

The lockdown was lifted at 10:05 a.m. Tuesday.

No one was injured during the incident and the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding the incident or who may recognize the suspect was asked to call 911.
