Police presence increased around school areas

RIVERSIDE – Police in Riverside issued a letter to residents last week in answer to residents who have noticed a marked increase in patrols around school areas.

Safety patrols and enforcement are a major priority of the day shift, Sargeant Bill Gutschick said.

On Sept. 11, officers were on patrol in the rear of Central and Hauser schools off Akenside Road. Only one violation was issued for using a cell phone within a school zone.

Police said residents will continue to see a police presence near schools, not only to enforce traffic safety, but also to assure parents, teachers and school staff that safety of school children is a top priority for the department.
