Local students named semifinalists in National Merit Scholarship Program

Several local students were named as semifinalists in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program, according to a news release from the Nation Merit Scholarship Corporation.

The 16,000 semifinalists will continue to compete for 8,000 National Merit Scholarships, which will be awarded next spring, the release said. 90 percent of semifinalists are anticipated to be named as finalists in the competition and more than half of those finalists will win a scholarship and earn the title of Merit Scholar.

Local semifinalists include:

• Sienna R. Crosby, Glenbard North High School

• Anand S. Desai, Glenbard North High School

• Vaibhav Jariwala, Glenbard North High School

• Amanda J. Kim, Glenbard North High School

• Andrew D. Krohn, Glenbard North High School

• Catherine E. Lauk, Lake Park High School

• Gordon M. Zak, Lake Park High School

• Madeline A. Zoltek, Lake Park High School

• Stephanie Ban, Streamwood High School
