Northwestern freshman and Lyons Township grad Matt Harris took the opening kickoff 47 yards and returned it to the Western Michigan 45-yard line in the Wildcats' 38-17 victory on Saturday. Harris has seen his role gradually increase in each of the first three games. He was a special teams player in Week 1, saw time on second team defense in Week 2 and took over kick return duties against WMU. After Harris' big return the Broncos kicked short on the following three kickoffs.

Harris' former classmate Jake Elliott was 3-for-3 in field goals for Memphis in the Tigers' 17-15 loss to Middle Tennessee State. He converted kicks of 21, 27 and 41 yards for his first collegiate field goals. In the Tigers' opening loss to Duke, Elliott was 2-for-2 on extra points.
