28th annual South DuPage CROP Hunger Walk set for Oct. 20

DOWNERS GROVE – The 28th annual South DuPage CROP Hunger Walk is set for Oct. 20 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 4501 Main St. in Downers Grove.

Check-in begins at 1:30 p.m., with walkers stepping off for the 6K route at 2 pm. Walkers are asked to please bring a non-perishable food item for donation.

The 28th Annual South DuPage CROP Hunger Walk will step out to help stop hunger and poverty here in the community and around the world. Last year the walk raised more than $30,000, bringing the total amount collected in the past 27 years to more than $630,000.

Of the money raised, 25 percent of the funds went to local hunger relief agencies.
This year Downers Grove and some 2,000 cities and towns nationwide are joining together in interfaith community CROP Hunger Walks around the theme "Ending hunger one step at a time."

These local ministries share in the funds raised by the CROP Hunger Walk: The Walk-in Ministry of Hope, Northern Illinois Food Bank, Westmont People’s Resource Center, Downers Grove FISH, Lisle Township Food Pantry, West Suburban Community Pantry, First Congregational/UCC Downers Grove PADS, St. Mary’s PADS and Meals on Wheels.

CROP Hunger Walks operate as an arm of Church World Service to raise money to support hunger and poverty alleviation programs throughout the world.

They also play a role in the U.S., helping communities damaged by floods and tornadoes to recover.
