A 36-year-old man formerly of Naperville has been sentenced to nine years in prison for illegally entering the home of his estranged wife in 2011 and beating her, officials said.

Kenny Edwards was sentenced to nine years in prison Thursday after he was found guilty July 12 of home invasion and domestic battery, according to the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office.

The Naperville Police Department said that at approximately 6:15 a.m. Oct. 30, 2011, it responded to a report of domestic violence at the home of Edwards' estranged wife. Police found the woman injured at her neighbor's home. She told police Edwards had entered her home without permission earlier in the morning while she was in her bedroom. He then beat her with his fists and two chairs, breaking one over her body, she said.

Edwards was located shortly thereafter and has remained in custody since, being held on $200,000 bond.
