Lemont can't contain Richards' athletes, falls to 1-2
LEMONT – The Indians have their work cut out for them if they're going to make it 10-consecutive playoff seasons.
Lemont fell to 1-2 with a 28-14 loss at home against conference crossover Richards Friday night.
Lemont never led Friday's contest but kept it tight with a strong defensive performance that included five sacks – including 2.5 by senior Andrew Miller – and 11 penalties on the part of the Bulldogs.
But in the end, Richards' athletes on the offensive side were too much to handle.
On a 3rd-and-21, a jump ball caught over two Lemont defenders for a 34-yard touchdown sealed the win for the Bulldogs late, giving them the two-touchdown lead with 2:35 remaining.
The Indians now will likely have to go 5-1 to secure a playoff spot and finish 6-3, though a 4-2 finish would put them on the bubble at 5-4.
Lemont kicks off its South Suburban Blue conference schedule next week at home against Oak Forest.
