Lombard named finalist in Rand McNally's Best of Road competition

LOMBARD – The Village of Lombard is encouraging residents to promote their hometown on Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites to help push the village into the winning spot for the Rand McNally Best of the road competition.

On Thursday, Lombard was announced as a finalist in the "Most Fun" category for the competition that highlights some of the top small towns in America.

In the first round of the competitions, Lombardians were encouraged to vote for the town in the Most Fun category. Lombard placed second in the online voting with 1,822 votes, which qualified it to advance to the next round. People could vote for their towns in the categories of Most Beautiful, Most Fun, Most Patriotic, Friendliest, Best Food and Best for Geocaching and a winner will be selected from each.

The Village of Lombard must submit a video, photo tour or essay highlighting the strong qualities of the town to the Rand McNally Best of the Road judges by noon Sept. 27. The towns will then be judged depending on persuasiveness of the final project, creativity, originality and volume of online activity.

The winners from each category will be announced in mid-October.

Residents, business owners and community members can promote Lombard online by posting reviews of the community at, or on Facebook and Twitter. Posts and updates should include the tag @bestoftheroad and hashtag #bestoftheroad.

Winners will receive an editorial feature in the Rand McNally Road atlas, special coverage on and a trial license to Rand McNally's Best Town Travels and digital travel planning guide.

Anyone with ideas for Lombard's final contest submission can contact Bridget Doyle, communications coordinator, at 630-620-5718 or email
