Hinsdale Central backup QB leads win over York

ELMHURST – Starting Hinsdale Central quarterback Chase Hamilton had to be helped off the field Friday night after injuring his ankle during the Red Devils' second series against York.

Without missing a beat, backup quarterback Jacob White took the reins, rushing for 160 yards on 16 carries, scoring one touchdown and propelling Hinsdale Central to a 30-7 victory.

The Red Devils, now 2-1 and riding a two-game winning streak, controlled the tempo, ground game and time of possession all night. Junior Ben Stefani scored the game's first touchdown – a slant pass from Hamilton that the running back turned up the left sideline, scampering 28 yards into the end zone. An extra point made it 7-0 and the Red Devils never looked back.

After Hamilton went down, White, operating out of the shotgun, caught York blitzing, then split the defense and sprinted 68 yards for a touchdown and a 21-7 in the third quarter. Other scoring included a late first quarter rushing touchdown from running back Juwan Edmund. Stefani scored the game's final touchdown in the fourth.

York trailed 14-0 at half, then drove down field and into the end zone on their first third quarter possession to make it 14-7. But, White's 68-yard score immediately after seized any momentum generated by the Duke's offense.
