DOWNERS GROVE – In a game that could go a long way to deciding the West Suburban Silver football conference champion, Glenbard West topped Downers Grove North 21-0 Friday night in the WSS opener for both teams.

It was the first time the Hilltoppers (2-1, 1-0 WSS) shut out a team this season and the first time the Trojans (2-1, 0-1) had been shut out this year.

West put together a 65-yard drive on its first possession and capped it with Drew Vogg's 16-yard strike to Grant Greeno with 6:15 left in the first quarter. West scored just before halftime on Scott Andrew's 1-yard lead and had a 14-0 advantage at intermission.

The Hilltoppers landed what proved to be the knockout blow early in the third quarter when Pernevlon Sheppard broke off a winding 48-yard touchdown run.

Both teams will be on the road at 7:30 p.m. Friday as North takes on Oak Park-River Forest and West heads to Lyons Township.
