College of DuPage sees highest enrollment numbers since 2005

GLEN ELLYN – This fall, College of DuPage (COD) has recorded the highest enrollment numbers it's seen since changing from a quarter system to a semester system in 2005.

The college stands out against regional and national downward enrollment trends, according to a COD news release.

“Like never before, people are waking up to the value that is in their own backyard,” COD President Robert Breuder said in the release.

As of its 10th day of classes, enrollment of part time and fulltime students at the college reached 28,627, a 9.4 percent increase compared to last fall, the release said.

The increase equates to 2,471 more students and 17,520 more credit hours, according to the release.

Fulltime enrollment increased by 7.6 percent, or 1,168 students, from last fall, meaning that 16,565 fulltime students are currently enrolled at COD, the release said.

Enrollment of new students specifically increased by 18 percent, and numbers for out-of-district students also grew, according to the release. The makeup of the student body is more diverse than in the past as well.

The U.S. Census Bureau recently reported that college enrollment decreased nationwide by about a half million in 2012.
