Prep roundup: Holze, WWS volleyball top West Aurora

Talia Holze finished with eight kills and helped Wheaton Warrenville South’s girls volleyball team to a 25-13, 25-22 win over West Aurora on Sept. 12.

Rachel Burau contributed 16 assists and five kills for the Tigers.


St. Francis

The Spartans defeated Rosary 25-14, 25-12 Monday behind 14 digs from Sam Dubiel and four aces from Lisa Mordell.

Led by 13 kills from Molly Haggerty, St. Francis also knocked off Immaculate Conception 25-18, 25-15 on Sept. 11. Maddie Haggerty totaled seven kills, Dubiel finished with 19 digs and Natalie Murison posted 12 service points and 11 assists.

West Chicago

The Wildcats recently beat Larkin 25-23, 21-25, 25-20 as Devan Orr produced 14 kills and Krissa Chernick had eight kills. Mary Kate Katarzynski tallied 18 assists.

Wheaton Academy

The Warriors beat Guerin 25-13, 25-12 Monday.


Wheaton Warrenville South

The Tigers clipped Naperville Central 156-157 in a DVC match Sept. 12.

Will Denman shared medalist honors with a score of 37.

Wheaton North

The Falcons knocked off Glenbard East 157-188 in a DVC dual meet on Sept. 12.

Michael Suazo netted top honors with a 38.

On Monday, Wheaton North lost 158-160 to York.

St. Francis

With John Stolte grabbing medalist honors with a 37, the Spartans beat Marmion 151-156 Monday.

Two days earlier, St. Francis placed ninth with a team score of 338 at the Rockford East Invite. Individually, Stolte led the way with a 79, which put him in a tie for 14th place. Jonathan Nocek was 18th with an 81 and Dan Zurawski placed 47th with an 88.

Behind a 39 from Jake Lane, St. Francis defeated Montini 161-179 in a Suburban Christian Conference dual meet Sept. 11. Stolte, Sean Doherty and Zurawski all added scores of 40.

Wheaton Academy

The Warriors fell by a 154-156 margin to Kaneland on Sept. 11. Zack Spear shared medalist honors with a 36.


Wheaton Warrenville South

Kelly Anderson grabbed medalist honors with a 35 in the Tigers’ DVC dual meet with Naperville Central on Sept. 12. Wheaton Warrenville South lost by a 174-197 margin.

Anderson was also the medalist in a dual meet with Maine South on Sept. 11 with a score of 37.

Wheaton North

Behind a 41 from Caitlin Berry, the Falcons upended Lake Park 183-232 in a DuPage Valley Conference dual meet on Sept. 11. Ally Leone added a 46.


Wheaton Warrenville South

The Tigers lost 2-0 to Streamwood in the opening round of the Pepsi Showdown Saturday.

The squad also dropped a 2-0 decision to West Chicago on Sept. 12.

Wheaton Warrenville South had kicked off DVC play with a 1-1 tie against Wheaton North Sept. 10 with Max Leonard scoring for the Tigers.

Wheaton North

The Falcons fell by a 4-0 margin to Maine South Saturday.

Wheaton North also lost by a 2-0 margin to Naperville North on Sept. 12.

The squad was coming off a 1-1 tie with Wheaton Warrenville South on Sept. 10 in the DVC opener for both teams. Dan Norton netted Wheaton North’s only goal on a penalty kick.

West Chicago

The Wildcats opened the Pepsi Showdown Saturday with a 2-1 loss to Huntley. Alexis Quezada scored the lone goal.

Receiving goals from Edgar Arechiga and Oswaldo Estrada, West Chicago topped Wheaton Warrenville South 2-0 on Sept. 12. Two days earlier, West Chicago beat South Elgin 4-2 as Missael Duran, Ricky Esparza, Cesar Nieves and Arechiga all scored.

Wheaton Academy

The Warriors beat Whitney Young 2-1 in double overtime in the opening round of the Pepsi Showdown Saturday. Ty Seager and Casey Zimmerman found the back of the net.

Wheaton Academy also defeated St. Francis 5-0 on Sept. 12 and improved to 3-0 in the Suburban Christian Conference. Seager scored three goals to lead the way.


Wheaton North

The Falcons picked up a 5-2 win over Glenbard South on Sept. 12.


Wheaton Warrenville South

With a solid pack, the Tigers were able to place fourth at the First to the Finish Invitational in Peoria Saturday. The squad posted a score of 186.

Katie Popejoy was 25th, Victoria Adomshick came in 39th and Kendall Laveen and Emma Schroer were 41st and 42nd, respectively. Natalia Boettcher was 53rd.

Wheaton North

Posting a score of 112, the Falcons came in third-place at the Royal Cadet Invitational Saturday.

West Chicago

The Wildcats finished fifth at Saturday’s Wauconda Invite with a score of 153.
