Glendale Heights man sentenced to 5 years for Glen Ellyn gold theft
GLEN ELLYN – A Glendale Heights man was sentenced Sept. 9 to five years in prison after pleading guilty to stealing more than $100,000 in gold bars from a Glen Ellyn jewelry store, according to the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office.
Daniel Knaack, 52, of the 1300 block of Oakmont Drive, Glendale Heights, was a manager at Costello Jewelry in Naperville when the thefts occurred at the company's Glen Ellyn location, said Paul Darrah, spokesman for the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office.
As part of his job, Knaack would sometimes help at Costello Jewelry, 474 N. Main St., Glen Ellyn, where video surveillance recorded Knaack accessing a safe containing gold bars at inappropriate times, Darrah said.
