MAPLE PARK – IC Catholic’s football team knew Kaneland has a traditionally tough offense, but it was Kaneland’s defense that proved difficult for IC.

Kaneland won the battle of the Knights 45-14 in Maple Park on Sept. 6. IC never really got off the ground in its first loss of the season.

In the first half, IC’s offense was held to negative rushing yards and surrendered as many points as it scored as a Kaneland defensive touchdown canceled out James Janowski’s 5-yard run in the second quarter.

Janowski’s score cut the lead to 17-7, but Kaneland went into halftime ahead 31-7 and held a 45-7 advantage before Janowski scored again in the fourth quarter on a 27-yard run.

Jack Copher and Rhashaun Epting continued to split time at quarterback, but neither were able to make a big impact on the game.

IC now enters Suburban Christian Gold play with a game against Aurora Central Catholic. It becomes an important game to win with difficult Suburban Christian Conference crossover games against St. Edward, Marian Central, Montini and Aurora Christian taking up the next four weeks.
